Last week, a gunman killed three and wounded nine during a shooting at a Colorado Planned Parenthood. As you can imagine, speculation is rampant about the motives of Robert Lewis Dear, the shooter, though initial signs point to some sort of anti-abortion mindset. However, fear not, because Colorado State Representative JoAnn Windholz (R) has found the real cause of the shooting: Planned Parenthood itself.
In a book status, Representative Windholz said:
The big quote, in my opinion:
“we must start pointing out who is the real culprit. The true instigator of this violence and all the violence at any pph facility is pph themselves. Violence begets violence. So pph, YOU STOP THE VIOLENCE INSIDE YOUR WALLS.”
Yes, that’s right. According to Representative Windholz, Planned Parenthood, by performing a legal medical procedure, initiated the violence against their facility. Such an extreme and crazy viewpoint has been roundly rejected by many of the anti-choice groups throughout this country.
The bizarre statement has natural resulted in a round of condemnations, including by many Republicans. Said Steve House, Chairman of the Colorado Republican Party, “Certain comments from elected officials and candidates since the release of that (initial) statement do not reflect the views of the Colorado Republican Party. We have and will continue to condemn acts of violence, regardless of the motivations behind them.”
Just a crazy thought: When their is violence against a facility, and that violence may have been inspired by inflammatory rhetoric, maybe don’t add fuel to the fire with asinine statements like the above?
