By the numbers: 2016 Presidential candidates and Twitter

On Friday, I wrote a blog entry that showed where the likely 2016 Presidential candidates were in terms of overall Facebook likes.  Here’s a look at that same group, but with a focus on Twitter.  Again, this focuses on their personal/political accounts, not official ones.  Also, please note that these numbers are approximations as they get higher – Twitter doesn’t actually give exact amounts for larger numbers.

So, what does this tell us?

  • Again, at least on Twitter, no Republican comes close to former Secretary Clinton, with the exception of Donald Trump. None of the other possible Democratic candidates even come close to Secretary Clinton.
  • Popularity on Facebook does correlate with popularity on Twitter.  Donald Trump is #1 on Twitter, followed by Marco Rubio and Ted Cruz.  On Facebook, it’s Huckabee, Paul, Trump and Cruz.
  • Some of the Republicans are stunningly low; Rick Perry and Chris Christie are examples, though you could argue that both have – or had – government accounts which distracted from their political ones.
