British politician gets caught favoriting porn on Twitter; proceeds to give the most honest response ever

Simon Danczuk is a British Member of Parliament and has represented the Rochdale area since 2010.  MP Danczuk recently was caught on Twitter favoriting a tweet which featured a woman performing oral sex on a man.

Okay, Danczuk favorited a pornographic tweet.  It isn’t the first time that a British MP has hit the wrong button and favorited an inappropriate tweet.  The only question here seems to be this: how would Danczuk try to get out of it?  Would he claim his Twitter was hacked, a la Anthony Weiner?  Would he say he was trying to report the tweet, like US Airways?  What excuse would he come up with?

None, to his infinite credit:

“Let’s be truthful about this. If I am being asked have I ever used porn, then the answer is yes.

“I am a man of the world. I wouldn’t deny that sort of thing. I think we should not be too sanctimonious about this.”

“I think there is far too much of that in politics and I think don’t put politicians on a pedestal. Let’s just have real conversations about real issues.”

Later in the same interview, Danczuk said that the favorite itself came by accident.

How did the internet react to this?  As you can imagine, some were unhappy:

Others, however, couldn’t care less:

A few things from this story.  First, politicians shouldn’t follow porn stars or sites.  In fact, they shouldn’t follow and risque accounts or materials that they’d be embarrassed to explain in public.  Who you follow on Twitter is visible to the world, and this information can be used against anyone.

Next, wow.  Credit to MP Danczuk for his honesty.  After all, the material he favorited was perfectly legal, just seriously embarrassing.  However, he admitted to looking at porn, but appropriately noted that there were a variety of other serious issues that deserved more examination than the legal activities he did in private.  Danczuk’s candor is refreshing and rare.

When it comes to social media, like other scandals, it goes without saying that the cover up is worse than the crime.  MP Danczuk realized this and handled the situation well.
